Built for the 1962 World’s Fair at a time when Americans were completely preoccupied with space exploration, the Space Needle was wildly futuristic and innovative even for the time. Clearly a forward-thinker, Edward E. Carlson drew his original sketch on a coffee napkin, ironically combining the two things Seattle may be best known for — the Space Needle and coffee. Our hats are off to you E. E. Carlson!
